National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research
Our mission is to fund and disseminate nonpartisan, scientific research that offers the public and policymakers a factual basis for developing fair and effective gun policies.
What We Do
Firearm violence and suicide are among the leading causes of death in the United States. Compared to other leading causes of death, however, we know far less about the prevention of firearms deaths and injuries.
The National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research supports rigorous scientific research with the objective of expanding knowledge about gun use and violence, and informing better public policies. Learn more
Who We Are
Frank M. Clark
Chairman, Research Advisory Committee
Frank Clark is President of the Chicago Board of Education, a member of the Chicago Bar Association, and co-founder of the Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy on Chicago's West Side.
How We Are Funded
The Laura and John Arnold Foundation founded the collaborative and seeks additional philanthropic funders that recognize the dire need for research to identify fair and effective gun policies that reduce gun violence.
Funders receive regular updates on the collaborative’s investments and performance. They will be contributing to the growth of science in this critically important, but neglected, policy area, and will help grow the network of organizations and funders dedicated to research on gun violence.
The collaborative is administered by RAND Corporation, a nonprofit, nonpartisan research institution. RAND develops targeted requests for research proposals at the direction of an independent Research Advisory Committee (RAC). All of the collaborative's grant award decisions are made by this nonpartisan committee.
The RAND Corporation is a nonprofit institution that helps improve policy and decisionmaking through research and analysis. For seven decades, RAND has used rigorous, fact-based research and analysis to help individuals, families, and communities throughout the world be safer and more secure, healthier and more prosperous.
